Parking Guide for the Verges Procession

On Maundy Thursday, Verges welcomes thousands of visitors, making parking one of the day’s biggest challenges. To avoid fines and having your car towed, it is crucial to respect all signage and only use the designated parking areas for the Verges Procession.

Here is the official map of the zones and our top tips for arriving and parking without any stress.

⛔ The Red Zone (Strictly No Parking)

As shown on the map, the perimeter marked with a red line covers the town centre and the streets where the Procession takes place.

  • Rules: Parking is strictly forbidden within this zone on Maundy Thursday from 4:00 PM onwards.
  • Towing Notice: Any vehicle left within this perimeter after the deadline will be towed by municipal services to ensure the Procession route is clear and safe for everyone. Don’t risk it!

🅿️ The 4 Designated Parking Zones

The organizers have set up several free parking areas for visitors, strategically located just outside the security perimeter. These are marked with a “P” on the map and with on-site signs.

Depending on which direction you arrive from, these are your best options:

  1. North Zone: Located near Carrer de les Escoles and the Municipal Pavilion. This is one of the largest and most accessible areas if you are arriving from the Garrigoles road or from the north.
  2. Roundabout Parking: If you arrive from Torroella de Montgrí or L’Escala via the C-31, you will find parking spaces near the petrol station and the eastern entrance to the town.
    • ⚠️ HEIGHT RESTRICTION NOTE: Although access is usually unrestricted, temporary height limiters (barriers) have occasionally been installed at the entrance to this car park. If you are driving a vehicle over 3 metres tall, we recommend heading directly to the Pavilion Zone to avoid complicated manoeuvres if you find access is limited.
  3. South Zone (Rec de l’Estany): Located at the bottom of the map, this is ideal for those looking for a quick exit after the Procession without having to cross the entire town.
  4. Carrer de Girona (West Entrance): At the main entrance when arriving from Girona, the adjacent fields are often opened for parking. This is the most visible area but also the one that fills up first.

🚐 Parking in Verges for Motorhomes and Campervans

We know many visitors arrive with their homes on wheels.

  • Where to park: Head directly to the more peripheral areas like the Pavilion Zone or the open lots at the C-31 entrance (if not height-restricted), where there is more room to manoeuvre and you won’t block narrow streets.
  • Important: Wild camping is not permitted within the urban area. Please be respectful of the local environment.

💡 Expert Visitor Tips

  • Arrive early: Although there are several zones, they fill up quickly. We recommend arriving before 5:00 PM (to coincide with the Manages parade) to find a spot in the closest areas.
  • Respect private driveways: Even if you park outside the red zone, be careful not to block driveways for residents or access to farmland.
