Until the liturgical reform of Holy Week in 1955 by Pope Pius XII, this day was called Saturday of Glory. The celebration of the Resurrection previously took place on Saturday morning due to fasting rules. Considering Good Friday was already a fast day, extending it was deemed excessive.
For Catholics, Holy Saturday is a day of solemn waiting, in anticipation of the great celebration to come. This day is a key part of the full Holy Week experience in Verges.
Holy Saturday is a day of mourning. The Catholic Church also commemorates the Solitude of Mary after Christ was laid in the tomb, leaving her with the Apostle John. Images of Christ crucified, in the tomb, or descending into Hell may be displayed in the church for veneration, as they illustrate the mystery of the day.
Today, the Church completely abstains from the sacrifice of the Mass. Holy Communion can only be given as Viaticum, and sacraments like Marriage are not celebrated, with the exception of Penance and the Anointing of the Sick.

Holy Saturday in Verges
On Holy Saturday in Verges, the **Procession of the Little Ones** takes place at 5 PM. This event includes a representation and a procession with a shorter route. The young Manages, children in red tracksuits, actively participate.
The traditional Dance of Death is also performed, but without torches. Despite the absence of mysteries, candles, and flowers, this procession retains its rich cultural significance for the people of Verges.
Mass Schedule
This year, there is no Vigil Mass in Verges. The Vigil Mass schedule in neighboring towns is as follows:
- Foixà at 7:30 PM
